Grosseto

Despite the rather limited area of the city center, there are preserved valuable monuments that synthesize the past and the history of the city over the centuries. Given the vastness of the municipality, are also reported numerous valuable monuments and places of interest, both in the individual fractions as isolated entities in the country. Cathedral of San Lorenzo Named after the patron saint of the city, surged as the oldest church of Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral in 1138, becoming temporarily, at the time of transfer to the Diocese of Grosseto, Roselle under Bishop Rolando. The new building in the Gothic style was begun in 1294 by architect and sculptor Sozzo Rustichini of Siena, but the work suffered numerous interruptions and the church underwent extensive remodeling and renovations up to take on a Gothic unit. Aldobrandeschi Palace See the Province of Grosseto, is located on the eastern side of Piazza Dante. Built in medieval times, the building was almost entirely rebuilt at the beginning of last century by the architect Lorenzo Porciatti. The building is in Gothic style with mullioned windows and mullioned window characterized by pointed arches, the top part ends with a battlement.
